We're very excited to finally announce our live music line-up for Record Store Day!
Did you know that our opening act from last year (Jess Morgan) recently played the O2 infront of 20,000 people? We're not taking credit or anything, just thought it was worth mentioning. We'd also like to point out that (unlike the vast majority of music festival lineups), our selection of artists playing this year is predominantly female!
Live music at Relevant on Record Store Day kicks off at midday, and runs all afternoon until we close at 6pm. Just to keep things easy on an already hectic day, we've got one act starting on the hour, every hour.
Our second half of the day is curated by R*E*P*E*A*T Records, who are releasing a limited edition 7" flexi disc for RSD (featuring a band playing at Relevant on the day!) Have a look at the press release for it here.
You can keep up to date with their side of things on their Facebook Event Page.
Full details of the whole day's events are below...
Special thanks to R*E*P*E*A*T for organising their half of the day's music, and to the one-and-only Simon Mader for expert "artist liaison"!
Dan Wilde (12:00)
Dan Wilde has been performing his own brand of richly observant folk (both in the UK and around the world) for the past eight years. Three studio albums in, the evidence is clear he’s an extraordinary songwriter, while his ‘stunning’ guitar playing (Maverick Magazine) has led to an endorsement from Fylde guitars. Previous releases ’This Is The Place’ (2010) and ‘With Fire in Mind’ (2013), cemented his reputation as a fine songsmith, while his third album ‘Rhythm on the City Wall’ (2017) has taken things to the next level. "A fantastic songwriting talent who without a doubt will deserve and demand your attention” — Eclectically Challenged “Engrossing and charismatic” — Folkwords “Love it, love it, love it” — Jeremy Vine, BBC Radio 2 Website | Soundcloud | Bandcamp | YouTube | Twitter | Instagram | FacebookPolly Paulusma (13:00)
In 2003 Paulusma was happily putting the finishing touches to shed-recorded debut album 'Scissors in my Pocket', when Bjork's label One Little Indian signed her up and catapulted her round the world for six years, supporting Bob Dylan, Jamie Cullum, Joseph Arthur, Coldplay and many others. In 2012 she released her third album and founded the Wild Sound label, which is now a folk imprint at One Little Indian. She is now recording her fourth album of originals as well as a traditional folk album of the songs that inspired the writer Angela Carter, on whom she is currently also researching a PhD. "Complete, pure and personal” ★★★★ — MOJO "The finest young British female singer-songwriter to emerge over the last 12 months" ★★★★ — Uncut Website | Soundcloud | Bandcamp | YouTube | Twitter | Instagram | Facebook"Special Guest(s)" (14:00)
In a bid to avoid a "conflict of interests", we've been asked not to bill our third performer of the day by name. He might be playing solo, he might have some friends with him, just more suprises to look forward to! He played here last year for Record Store Day (with his full band), and that they've got another RSD release out this year (and did last year too). Answers on a postcard... Beverley Kills (16:00)
R*E*P*E*A*T presents: riotous femme-punk-rockahula whose recent contribution to the Venus Envy flexi made them lots of new friends and was played on 6 Music. This will be a rare & special acoustic set! Founded in the summer of 2008, Beverley Kills launched its all-girl punk-rock attack soon after the first jam and has been gaining momentum ever since. Founded by drummer Juliette and also starring Georgie, Kate and Elisa (lead vox, guitar and b/vox and bass and b/vox respectively) the band has played all over the country, sharing bills with some notable acts, including Varsity Drag (Ben Deily Lemonheads' current project), The Slits - who dubbed BK ‘best support of the tour’, The Primitives, GBH and China Drum. The band’s debut EP, ‘No Cash Value’, was released on 9021GO! Records in the summer of 2010, to favourable reviews in a number of well-respected punk fanzines. Their eponymous debut album was unleashed in November 2011, again with positive reviews and an 8/10 in Vive Le Rock magazine. Another EP, ‘On the Trail’ followed in 2013, on R*E*PE*A*T Records, and a split single on the same label in the autumn of 2017. With song plays and interviews on BBC and other radio stations behind them, and a love of playing live, the grrrls of Beverley Kills fully intend to continue blazing their own punk rock trail.
